Project 03:
Living Room & Dining Room
The client brief for this renovation & interior design project was to create a unified living/dining space that was contemporary and sleek, and that offered sufficient storage. It was furthermore important for this design to seamlessly connect with the recently installed minimalist-design kitchen, and the overall design needed to incorporate the client's unique dining table pendant lamp, and the existing contemporary tv unit.
In this design, subtle emphasis is given to vertical lines, to visually enhance the height of the room: specifically, the fluting on the dining table & storage units; the fluting on the glass table lamp, as well as the wave form of the curtaining.
The translucency of the curtaining lets light into the rooms, whilst maintaining privacy.
Textures play an important role in this design, as evidenced by the the soft faux fur sofa throw, and the richer, heavier, corduroy, leather and embroidered cushions to contrast - all working beautifully together with an autumnal Scandinavian colour palette. The gently curved mushroom lamps and the organically-shaped occasion tables soften the harder lines of the sofa and the tv unit, and emphasise the curved edges of the dining table and storage units
For this project, my responsibilities included conceptualizing and realizing the design of the two rooms, as well as project co-ordination in the areas of demolition, electrics, flooring, heating & painting.
